Why is this song considered folklore?
- "Puff the Magic Dragon" is a song that kids though many generations have listened to as a child. The song is about a little boy who has a dragon friend, but as he grows up he leaves and forgets about the dragon. It is about the idea of growing up and moving on in life, therefore leaving your innocence behind as you grow out of your childhood. It could be played to give kids a realization to enjoy their childhood while it's happening.
My personal critique of the song.
- Personally, I found this song to be very sad and would not recommend it to children. However, I can also see how if one were to have listened to this song while they were young, then the would play it for their children to also listen to. While it does go from happy to a little sad, one can see how it is explaining our lives and how we grow up and become interested in new things besides toys and our imaginations.
